to form a government
After 613 days the Brussels Capital Region finally has a government. The majority is made up by MR + PS + Les Engagés on the french side, and Groen + Vooruit + Anders + CD&V on the Dutch side.
After the Belgian general elections of 09/06/2024 a new Brussels Parliament was elected. In previous elections was the Brussels Capital Region always the quickest. Last year (2025) the region broke Belgium's own record for time without a government.
To form a government in Brussels you need a majority in the two language groups (French & Dutch). When a majority is found in those groups, the respective parties form one government. This makes the government formation extra complicated, since you need more parties to form a government.
